De-clutter with God’s word

A junk room is full of waste and items that are old, worn, secondhand and rejects. I wouldn’t love to see the state of my mind after going through a storm, I have had my share of them. I think it would pretty much look like a junk room. And a common attitude we all have towards a junk room is we don’t want to go in there to de-clutter. Sometimes, it gets even worse, the doors won’t shut. The solution is to de-clutter.

Before starting any spiritual exercise it is good practice to get rid of the clutter lodged in the mind. You may want to write down your areas of concern, then strike through each word you have written. I have found that this helps the subconscious get the message that the chapter is now closed.

One of the challenges we face in the place of prayer is our attention span. Recently, I was reading a research document and the writer stated that in the year 2000, an average adult had an attention span of 12 seconds but in 2013 it had dropped to 8 seconds. We live in a world full of distractions, and these hinder our spiritual growth as believers and disciples of Christ. Same with negative remnants from the past, they choke the works of the spirit.

We have the power to overcome. The Lord has made every provision for us in His word. For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). The Word penetrates to de-clutter from evil pronouncements, negative spoken words, regrets and lies of the enemy. De-cluttering makes room for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. The spirit gives life; hopelessness is replaced with hope, instead of fear faith occupies its place and the love of God is released in abundance.

Include meditation on God’s word in your spiritual exercise. Meditation is simply going through a bible verse in your mind until you can recall it in memory or until it forms a picture in your mind. The word of God is potent, it cleanses us of all unrighteousness and gives strength to our spirit man.
